oak hill flyer: eddyman (camp 4 of 6)
this post has only been sitting around for a month. i left the philosophical wax off of this one, but it's a good milestone nonetheless.
i've added a camp since the last post, given other weekend plans and events in september.
this build session was about building up to prairieman, the summertime half iron up in dallas. Given weekend events, it was more prudent to stay in austin, so I did my own half iron. tropical storm hermine flooded out barton springs sadly, so i move the whole event to deep eddy. a whole half-iron, and I was ready to do it solo.
how could I forget that I was in austin. seeing cheryl at the end of the swim (a nice surprise to pop out after an hour straight of laps to hear your name called unexpectedly!) and gui accompanying me on the bike through creedmoor and mountain city was a real treat. upon returning to the parking lot for the run, i saw james d. parked right beside me, he was doing a tri workout himself! after i departed for the run, i didn't bump into many other friends which was no surprise: temps were in the mid-90s with full sun. the only friends i had were the convenience store attendants who allowed me to pillage their soda fountain for all the ice cubes it could muster. perhaps better men would not stand in front of the beer freezer with the door wide open, but hey: at least i didn't crawl inside.
although the 10:00+ pace for 13 miles is nothing to write home about, the fact i needed no more than two days to bounce back from the whole affair is worth writing. when doing prairieman two summers ago, i needed the better part of two weeks before i considered getting off the couch, let alone working a training schedule. indeed, i feel the training is paying off. there is still some residual achilles tension from the big week, but i'm going to keep working with my PT and hope we can get it nipped in the upcoming month.
