tribute

i finished my last major run of baa 100 training this morning: a 23 mile outing in near-perfect conditions. zero wind and a 40-degree start gave way to a mirror-like surface on town lake; a rising sun led to a 60-degree finish at 1030am.
i had the pleasure of running the middle 12 miles with the usual suspects from this year's freescale 3:10 pace group, who really made the middle 1.5 hours melt away.
i finished the run on the hilly scenic/pecos loop, running my fastest splits during those final six miles. based upon the very light sweat on my brow, i could tell that i was running out of fluids in the final 2 miles. however, i had plenty of recovery drink in the car--i wasn't worried.
i went out hoping to run three hours in this final push for boston. wouldn't you know that upon my finish, i'd ran a total of 3:05:46... exactly 30 seconds less than my personal record at freescale 2005. that marathon was the last time i ran three hours, and i couldn't help but running an extra 150 yards to cap the run off. 3:06:16--the time that got me to boston 2006 last year was the time that gets me to boston 2006 this year.
needless to say, the beast was stunned.
whip-crack went his whoopy tail,
and the beast was done.
