top four
me and my frozen ass sit in front of the computer tonight; the two of us just got out from a 15-minute ice bath. i knocked out my first 20 miler this morning in preparation for boston, and ice baths do wonders for recovery. but damn if frost doesn't form on your bones by the time it's all over... the cold stays with you for a full hour-plus after the bath.
i'll bite on a recent weblog fad that i've seen in a couple places. not that i have to resort to such frivolities to produce the quality material that the readers of OHF have come to expect, it's just that this blog is my blog and i can do whatever the hell i want with it. without further adieu...
top four moments during my 20 mile run this morning
1. mile 11: the mile where i stopped worrying about my tight hamstring
2. post-run: standing in the cold springs of deep eddy while the 70 degree february sun warmed my chest and face
3. various miles: seeing manuel, ann marie, noel, lee, jim and some other dude who clearly knew me but i failed to recognize him under his shades and hat, out on the trail
4. mile 5: with my attention focused on the pair of long, toned legs climbing up the hill in front of me, coming to the harsh realization that i wasn't entirely sure whether the owner of those legs was female
top four hottest women in distance running today, and why they're not returning my calls
1. kim smith (i don't speak kiwi)
2. deena kastor (i'm not a physical therapist)
3. the women of wellesley college (they are returning my calls, but all they do is scream in my ear)
4. clara hughes (national anthem of canada playing too loud in the ampitheatre. note that although she's a speedskater, she was kinda hot when she found out she won gold, then took off her hood and all this red hair came pouring out. that should count for something, runner or not.)
top four things that piss me off so bad i want to take my running shoes, light them on fire in front of the texas capital, and delcare that i have nothing to do with this sport
1. the cliquish immaturity of the runtex forums
2. runners who expect a marathon to have every detail catered to their exact need down to the heated triple-ply toilet paper in the port-o-lets, and whine incessantly whenever that expectation isn't met
3. the white-collar aire that masks the blue-collar soul of the sport
4. race directors who think they can create yet another cookie-cutter race in downtown austin and expect it to be a smashing success
top four disturbing quirks to which i claim ownership
1. i know the difference between the average pre-run restroom stop and the final pre-run restroom stop
2. i have every pair of running shoes i have ever owned
3. i massage myself before i go to bed at night after a long day on the road
4. a holdover from youth inspired by the 1986 film iron eagle, queen's one vision must be listened to before every race
