before i start, i would like to thank a comment made by my coworker on her blog for being the match that landed too close to the tinder box. by no means is this article a front on her... the comment i saw in her blog is a comment that i hear all sorts of people make every day about age. and when i hear comments like that, this is what i think.
i've got 15 minutes to write what i could easily spend hours writing. so i'll stop wasting time.
hear me now--i am going to live to an old and glorious age. and i look forward to the next year as much as i did this year one year ago. i do not and will not lament turning 30, 40, 65, or even 29. those ages are absolutely beautiful. when people jest about how old there getting, they're doing nothing more than confirming how old they're letting themselves get. i am going to be doing stuff in my elder years that will blow your mind. even if it's nothing more than waking up, touching my toes, and going out for a daily 3 mile walk.
i'm under no illusions here. i'm not going to be setting PRs when i'm 65, but you better believe that i'm not going to be retired to a recliner when i've 25-33% of my life left to live.
when i turn 50, i honestly believe that 50% of my chronological life will be over, which by no means implies that more than 50% of my existence is over as well. quite possibly, the converse could be true.
someone shoot me right-the-freak now if these current years are the best years of my life. don't get me wrong--these years are good--they're absolutely wonderful--but if there's nothing to look forward to for the next TWO-THIRDS-OF-A-CENTURY, cut me off right here.
i look back at a lot of thoughts that i had in high school, in college, and think "boy, what a naive dummy." these thoughts about age? they're 100% spot-on. i have no doubt that fifty-years from now, i'll be thinking--and thanking--these exact ideals.
maybe i'm dead wrong. maybe by writing this, i've just fated myself to 15 years of vegetative stasis in the twilight that awaits me. i guess i'll worry about that when that time comes. as for now, it's 11:30pm. i have to go to bed.

Happy 29th! Right on about taking pride in getting older. Getting older RULES. And of course, life can ONLY get better, otherwise, what's the point? Hope you're having a super day.

What did I say? Now everyone you know is going to think I'm mean or old or something and I'm totally not! Just so you know, I'm going to be a kick-ass 80 year old. You just wait!
